Becoming a certified PADI Scuba Diver on Koh Tao is a streamlined, two-day experience. This course is a subset of the Open Water Diver course, meaning you complete roughly the first half of the full training. It is designed to get you comfortable in the water quickly while adhering to strict safety standards.
To earn your certification, you will complete three specific parts: Knowledge Development (Sections 1-3), Confined Water Dives (Sessions 1-3), and Open Water Dives (Dives 1-2).

1. Tauchtheorie
Your journey begins with the “why” and “how” of diving. You will cover the first three sections of the PADI manual, focusing on the essential physics of pressure, equipment mechanics, and the buddy system.
To make sure you’ve got it, you’ll knock out quick reviews and Quizzes 1-3 with your instructor. The best part? Unlike the full Open Water course, there is
no Final Exam here. We highly recommend using PADI eLearning before you arrive so you do less classroom, and focus more on diving.
2. Training im flachen Wasser (Praxis-Session)
Once the theory is done, it’s time to get wet. You will complete Confined Water Dives 1, 2, and 3. We do this in a safe, shallow environment which is usually our calm beach area on Koh Tao.
Under the patient guidance of your instructor, you will master the mechanics. You’ll practice setting up your gear, clearing water from your mask, and controlling your buoyancy using your BCD and lungs.
This is also where we check your water comfort. The requirement is super accessible: just a
10-minute survival float. That’s it. Here’s a tip: floating in the ocean is super easy! It’s even easier than the pool. Unlike the full course, there is no 200-meter swim required for this level.
3. Freiwassertauchgänge
Finally, we head out on the Nava dive boat for Open Water Dives 1 and 2. This is the real deal. You will explore vibrant coral reefs up to a maximum depth of 12 meters (40 feet).
On these dives, you are never alone. You will be under the
direct supervision of a PADI Professional the entire time. Your instructor handles the navigation and safety, so you can just relax and watch the fish. Once you surface from your second dive, you are officially a certified PADI Scuba Diver!
